frugal

The pic shows half a ton of cast iron rainwater goods painted and ready to install on new house. Its great stuff to work with but a bit on the expensive side putting it mildly. The foundry offered to pre paint at a cost of £1200! a few hours and 60 quids worth of paint I'm just about finished....frugal mcdougal me.

Good on you (and btw, how green is your grass?? everything in California is golden, i.e. brown ) that's what my Mum would have done too. Now the daughter as you know is the ultimate outsourcerer, I am the laziest person ever.

Yeah, I do my own painting. Building too. Coems a bit more cheaply and you get what you want.

It's a good job you don't mind painting.

I'm doing my own fascias and guttering too at the moment. Painting the render as well.

Three storeys high (had to rent scaffolding.)

I wanted to clear the moss off the roof while I was up there so hired a roof ladder. Half an hour later I got back down absolutely knackered from being in a stress position and having been petrified at the height and the feeling of insecurity.

I didn't go back up. I figured that it wasn't worth the trouble (or the risk.)

Kev, I do all my own high work but I don't enjoy it. If you don't feel good about it then you shouldn't do it....false economy and all that.

Not your average rain-gutter and downspouyt! In a pinch you could improvise mortar tubes and howitzers!

As far as high work goes, I want a harness.
